IT MATTERS

there is so much killing that I started working on a paper piece Quilt that say's BLACK LIVES MATTER, ALL LIVES MATTER.  While making the paper piece quilt I wanted  to put guns on that quilt but some of my quilting friends  had seen the quilt and there was a strong conversation about whether to put the guns on the quilt or to leave the guns off the quilt.  I have not decide what I wanted to do with the paper piece quilt so I made this quilt, it is not paper piecing.  It is like very day the news is talking about someone being kilt.  Whether it is here, some other city or around the world.  Killing is killing know matter what, who or where.  Whether you, black, white, red or yellow, killing is WRONG.

Around this quilt it say, It matters, it matters, all around the quilt, at the bottom it say, It matters stop the killing

STOP THE KILLING

The portrait class

the try out for the class went ok.  I ask my two friends for feedback so I can make some changes to better this class.  Both agree that I should make the picture that they work on bigger.  The part when I showed them how to work the Photoshop element program, they said That I explain that very well so that they could understand.  And they were greatful for the little short cut tips.  They both brought the wrong kind of fabric for this project.  So I have to explain better on how to pick out the fabric. They thought that I should make little fabric kit to sale.  I don't know about that.  That will be more money for me to put out.  The class was fun.  I am going to make a few changes and try again to see how the class will go before I decide to charge a fee.  So to my close quilting friend that live close by me don"t be surprise if I call and ask if you can come over and try my class out. I might charge a small fee for the use of my ink for the printer.  The class took all day.  So a person can finish the class in one day.  I am trying to get a feel of how many to a class so that I can my attention to  each student. So now some pictures of the class work.  I feel they did a great job.  It was only two people.  Marlene and Phyllis.  Marlene stayed later and quilted her.  It will be a gift for her daughter.  The color fabric wasn't quit right for her portrait.  Another thing when you do this, your embroidery scissors must be very sharp.
I also want to thank Phyllis's and Marlene for their time.       Stitches yetunde

I am back

i know long time since I have been here.  First I want say that I have two account for this blog and didn't know how to combine the two. One has my old email address and the other has my new.  The new will not let me post but they both show the same thing.  Can someone tell me how to combine the two into the new account so I can post and not use my old email address.

Now what in the hell have I been doing for the pass couple of years. Family issues some good and some bad.  A lot of knitting so don't be surprise if you see knitting post once in a while. I have retired this pass summer so now I have time to quilt and knit and take of family member.  Also me time time I need some.   I am trying to figure out how I can teach my friends, you are my friends how I make my portrait quilt.  I am trying out a few friends at my home with this to see how I can work this out with out having to travel with a lot of big stuff.  If were to teach this outside my home.   The main problem is I don't want to bring a big printer and some other heavy stuff with me if I travel so we will see How this will work out.

Ok time for some quilt

I made this a couple of weeks ago.  I had some adinkra symbols that I thought was time to use in a quilt. The top symbol is call GYE NYAME (Jen-n-yah-me) God is all power over all (except God or it is only God).  The big one in the middle is call SANKOFA (sang-ok-fah) wisdom of learning from the past to build for the future.  These are my two favorite out of the adinkra symbols.

One day when I was at a restaurant I went to the ladies room and I saw this picture on the wall and I was Thinking that it would a nice quilt so I took two pictures with my camera and the next day I made a quilt out of the picture but I make changes to the dresses In the pictures, so this is what you see from the ideas that I saw from two small pictures hang from the ladies restroom.  Now I know you are saying only two quilts, well I have been making a lot of baby quilts which I hate to make and I didn't take pictire of them.  I don't know why I didn't.  I working on a hexagon quilt that is taking me forever to finish so look forward to seeing that some day.  I will never make hexagon quilt again.  I even did a hexagon swap just to get different fabric put on his quilt, never never again will I do that again.  It's pretty but a hell of a lot work.
I am hope that my mini projector comes in time so I can try to use that so that my friends don't have to stand over me while I try to show them what i do on the computer to get the portrait quilt started.  Wish me look.

mandela

I know, long time hearing from me.  while I was listening to my audible book on Mandela I decided to try my hands on making him.  here are pictures of my progress so far.

I think he looks like Mohammad Ali.  I am going to cut the brown back ground out and us a different back ground and then have one of his quote on the side (EDUCATION IS THE MOST POWERFUL WEAPON YOU CAN CHOOSE TO CHANGE THE WORLD!)  NELSON MANDELA
to my dc and Maryland friends anybody have any lettering template I can use to make this quote.  and I also have to get some fusible web to make the lettering.

adding hair

ok, i know it took me a while to do her hair. so here are some pictures of me working on her hair. i had to be in the mood to do her hair and i guess being at home with the snow got me in the mood to try and do her hair. so check it out. i hope you like it.
what i have done here was to cut out the hair and her ear, what i do is layer the fabric on top of each other to make the hair.  the different shades of grays form the hair.

i also added her earring and add a binding. now all i have to do is finish the binding.

LOVE

what's love got to do with it.  in 2012 for some reason i only made three quilts.  one of them was a portrait quilts, where the couple decide they didn't want it because it was to close to the holiday.  so i did not finish it,  two were baby quilts and i have no pictures of them.  there were many times i have tried to do a portrait, i  just did not like the look of the portrait quilt.  so the next best thing i did,  to keep my hands busy was to knit.  something that i was doing before i started quilting.  there were mini workshops that i did make little quilts, but no pictures.

well a couple of days ago my friend marlene called to ask for my open about how to do a quilt. the quilt was paper piecing.  i hate paper piecing.  i always waste fabric. i was trying to tell marlene how to do it.  she had done paper piecing before but for some reason it was just not coming back to her right now. the next thing i know i am doing the quilt piece by piece and sending her pictures and talking to her on the phone about how i did it.  marlene sent me a picture of how her piece is looking and i love it.  it is so different from mine and that is what i love about it.  i kind of like making letter paper piecing.  i want to make a a paper piece that says LOVE NOT WAR.
i want to thank marlene for getting my creative juices going.

THANKS MARLENE

i am back

well, i am back, new glasses, i have lost 26 1/2 pounds in 16 weeks.  for some reason my body does not want me to loose no more than 24 pounds for some reason.  but i finally got pass that 24 pound weight lose.  my health is doing good.  weight watcher is not that bad, i like it.  i am now on one medication and i truly believe that all that medication was making my vision go crazy.  so my quilting friends, i am backing to quilting.  i am doing a traditional quilt challenge and that crap is driving me crazy.  i do not know if it will be completed by June 16th.  wish me luck.  to all of you who do and love traditional quilting, i love you but that is not for me. i said that before i truly know that is not for me.  i am going back to my art quilting and portrait quilting. in traditional quilting, i can not getting those corner to match to save my life.  once i got the hang of it and decide to look at what i did the stupid block pieces were not matched up. they were going all kinds of ways.  so right now that is thrown into the corner until i can get myself to take the stupid pieces a loose and start all over.  right now i am working on a well know singer, who i will not tell you who she is until i finish.  right now i am having some real problems with her hair.  i am thinking about just making her hair black and forget about the highlights in her hair.
here are a few pictures of what i have done so far.

once i get the hair right, i will show and tell you who she is if you have not guess yet.
if any body has a nice picture of Chuck Brown can you send it to me.  i might try him next.

Why I am not quilting

Hello quilting family.
My vision is giving me problems. I have tried several times to do a portrait and have messed up beautiful fabric. I am having problems reading anything, even when I put on glasses. So I am getting my eyes check this coming Monday. I am really here to tell you to please keep in close contact with your doctor when you are going on a diet. I started a diet in January and I am doing every well with the weight loss problem. I have talked with my doctor and a nutrientionist. Here is the problem, I pass out at work this pass Friday. Once I got to the hospital they thought that I was having a stroke. My pressure was going up and down so they treated me as a stroke patient, because of other things that was going. I saw my doctor yesterday and she believe that because I am lossing weight that my body was having a reaction to the medications that I was taking. Right now I am only on one medication, which is for my blood pressure. And she is running test on me just to check to see if anything else comes up. So my advise is to just check in on your doctor once in a while, while you are on a diet. Because while you are losing the weight and getting healthy your medication has to be change.

This is just a little something for you to think about.

To the ladies in Virginia, you know who you are I was look at may to meet, but I think I will push it to june. I will call you.
